Someone at Namco was a bit too overzealous

Good news for Durante, the author of the “precious” DSFix for Dark Souls, and fans of the game alike, as Bandai Namco seems to have dropped its DMCA complaint for the mod.

For those out of the loop, there was a bit of a drama in the last few days, as Bandai Namco has decided to take matters in its own hands and remove the best mod for Dark Souls, DSFix, from all cloud services where it's currently hosted.

A few days ago, Durante received an email from Dropbox informing him that his account was locked until he would disable the download links to DSFix mod. The letter was signed by the Dropbox Team and claimed they have received a DMCA complaint from Bandai Namco, which is why they have decided to temporarily lock Durante's account.

As the news made headlines, the whole Dark Souls community was both confused and outraged by Bandai Namco's actions against the one person that really helped the game get into more PCs since its release.

Due to the faulty port on PC, Dark Souls does not support higher resolutions and misses quite a few features. Thanks to Durante's mode, PC players can play Dark Souls and actually get a decent image quality.

Dark Souls DSFix mod can be re-uploaded on Dropbox once again

The DSFix mod does not contain any Dark Souls material, it's just a toolset packed with .dll and .ini files, so from this point of view, Bandai Namco's DMCA complaint made no sense at all.

Well, it only took one day for DSFix to be allowed to be re-uploaded to Dropbox. NeoGAF's forum member Chariot confirmed he recently talked with an FDS (File Defense Service) official who said they were hired by Bandai Namco.

According to him, FDS was approached by the European division of Bandai Namco with the sole purpose of taking down all the debug mode patches. There was no mention of DSFix mod, but it looks like someone was overzealous.

The good news is FDS' official confirmed that he would get in touch with Bandai Namco and Dropbox to clear up any confusions over banning Durante's DSFix mod.

Moreover, he said that after clearing up all the situation Durante should be allowed to re-upload his DSFix mod for Dark Souls on Dropbox, one again.

So there you have it folks, we can now rest easy and end the drama, though these things should never happen. Pity we don't live in a perfect world. You can check out below the full post on NeoGAF explaining the situation.
