From Software wants to keep gameplay familiar

The development team at From Software has not yet delivered any actual gameplay taken from its upcoming Dark Souls 3, but the company seems eager to stay relatively close to the spirit of the series while adding elements that the community has been requesting.

Hidetaka Miyazaki is one of the co-directors of the new experience and he explains in an interview translated by Gematsu that Dark Souls 2 serves as a starting point for the new title and improvements have been made to certain mechanics.

Combat in Dark Souls 3 will be faster, although there are no plans to get close to the system seen in Bloodborne.

The character builder has also been expanded, as well as the various tactical options, while the development team has also made sure that the gamer remains immersed in the world and the role-playing structure of the franchise.

Miyazaki adds, "For instance, we adopted the concept of rapid fire for the short bow, and the animation between rolling and walking has been smoothed out. I don’t think we’re going to employ the idea of agility, otherwise the action would be stressful until you raise your stats."

Dark Souls 3 will have a lower number of overall maps than the previous installment, but the game director says that each of them will be much larger, which means there will be more tactical options for gamers.

The game is not the final title in the series

Dark Souls 3 is one of the major reveals from the Microsoft E3 2015 press conference, and the cinematic trailer delivered by From Software was an impressive one.

It seems that fans of the series will have to wait for about one month before they get a full look at the gameplay in video form.

Miyazaki also makes it clear that Dark Souls 3 is not the final title in the series, despite some previous comments that suggested that.

Dark Souls 3 is in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and From Software has not yet talked about a launch window for it, rather than early 2016.

The development studio has managed to capture the imagination of gamers with the complex combat and the difficulty level of its franchise, and the fact that it is delivering its experience on more platforms will expand its potential audience.
