Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, the new and improved version of the challenging RPG that's set to debut on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One takes advantage of the more powerful devices to deliver better visuals, which in turn directly improves the whole experience, at least according to developer From Software.

Dark Souls 2 launched this spring across the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms, bringing forth yet another impressive and challenging role-playing experience that delighted plenty of people even though the visuals weren't that impressive.

Since then, fans have begged developer From Software to consider releasing the game on newer platforms, like PS4 or Xbox One, even though the studio was already busy making Bloodborne exclusively for the PS4 in collaboration with Sony Japan.

Earlier this week, however, the studio confirmed that it was going to debut Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, but also for the PS4 and Xbox One, where it will receive better visuals, enhanced gameplay, and much more.

The visual improvements enhance gameplay

While talking with Famitsu, via DualShockers, about the changes made to this new version of Dark Souls 2, Game Director Yui Tanimura has confirmed that the image quality has the biggest impact on gameplay, as users can survey their surroundings in a better way.

"If the resolution increases, since the image quality improves, the amount of visual information also increases. The sense of discovery changes a little. You can see something in the distance and perceive the smaller details. You can say 'this one looks nice, so it’s all good' or maybe feel that it’s an enemy (laughs)," he explains.

Darker zones will feature more detail

Tanimura also confirms that darker zones, such as caves, will feature more detail and thus be even more impressive and of course, more terrifying due to the vicious enemies.

"The amount of information perceived by the eye in dark places also increases. I think the sense of immersion and realism becomes quite different. For instance the situation in which you’re surrounded by spiders in Brightstone Cove Tseldora changes quite a bit with the increased specs," he adds.

Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin launches in April for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. You can expect From Software to keep sharing more details about the improvements made to the game in the following months.
