Dark Matter has recently received quite a lot of criticism after a gamer posted his thoughts on the game's Steam discussion page upon reaching its ending.

It seems that after he managed to kill the Queen, he was greeted with a “Click to return to the Main Screen” message instead of a new map. Other gamers have been quite offended by that.

Therefore, the developers have decided to clear things up, posting a message on Steam, explaining how Dark Matter was initial planned to be a self-funded game but since making the game larger required more funds, they decide to put it on Kickstarter.

Developing it at a larger scale with more levels and finally selling it at the full price of $30 / €22 required the help of Kickstarter. Unfortunately, the project didn't manage to reach its targeted amount and developers abandoned it.

As a result, they have decided to make Dark Matter an episodic series, having each episode sell at the price of $14.99 / €14.99. For additional episodes to be released, the previous one must be a success, meaning the one that is now on Steam.

Dark Matter is most definitely finished, featuring 14 levels and what was meant by the “full story is indeed not complete” is that this is not the $30 / €22 full-priced game, but the episodic version currently selling at $13,49 / €13.99 at 10% off on Steam

Players ought to know that the game has about 5 to 9 hours of gameplay and could take longer or even shorter time to complete it. It all depends on how you explore the areas and if you manage to collect all of pick-ups.

Even so, the developing team feels that it is still a game worth playing and apologizes for any confusion the game's ending might have created.

They have reassured gamers that they are working on giving them a more satisfying ending as well as on improving the game. As soon as something is available, it will be made public.
