With a cast that includes the biggest names in action movies, both present and from yesterday, “The Expendables” is already shaping up to be one adrenaline rushing experience. While the other day it transpired that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger would star as himself in the film, now Danny Trejo, also known as The Machete, is said to have been approached for a part.

As of now, it is not yet known what part Trejo might take but, given his past experience, as well as the fact that, to put it simply, the audiences are just not used to seeing him as the good guy, it’s very likely that he will be in the opposite camp from that of Stallone and his posse. Of course, fans are already saying on dedicated forums, not that this would be a bad thing – quite on the contrary, since, in this way, Trejo would do what he knows to do best, namely, be a mean baddie who kills on sight.

“According to my trusted source, tough guy actor Danny Trejo, aka Machete, has joined the cast of Sylvester Stallone’s ‘The Expendables’! I don’t know what role it is but I think it might actually be for a bad guy role most likely in the regime of the main bad guy that ‘The Expendables’ have to topple.” Latino Review writes. The publication is also the first to break the story of Trejo coming to join the already stellar cast made, so far, of Sylvester Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts and Arnold Schwarzenegger (only rumored).

With all the stars crowding to land a part in the much-hyped mercenary-themed flick, tentatively set to debut in 2010, Jean Claude Van Damme was the only one to pass on Stallone’s offer. Nevertheless, he recently said, he did not do it because the film would not be successful or because of the money. It was because Sly could not tell him what part he would be playing in case he accepted the offer.

“Stallone gave me a part in his next movie. But I ask him about the subject, about the story. He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be.' [Stallone said:] ‘You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.’ [So I said:] ‘Sly, what is my character?’ So I didn’t do the movie.” Van Damme explained in a recent interview. At the same time, he also said that he would like to do a more serious part, which is why he was considering rebooting “Bloodsport,” the film that literally put him on the map.
