Though he doesn’t strike one as the type who’d live life in the fast lane, Hollywood-style, British actor Daniel Radcliffe admits that he too succumbed to temptation while shooting for “Harry Potter,” coming very close to developing a potential alcohol problem.

In a new interview with GQ, cited by The Telegraph, the actor explains why he doesn’t touch alcohol anymore these days – and it’s because he used to abuse it some years back.

“I became so reliant on [alcohol] to enjoy stuff. There were a few years there when I was just so enamored with the idea of living some sort of famous person’s lifestyle that really isn’t suited to me,” Daniel explains.

In other words, he got sucked into the world he now vows he doesn’t belong to. Luckily, he realized he was going nowhere good, and he put an end to this destructive behavior.

Because of this, he has a better appreciation of the good things in his life right now, because he’s looking at them with a sober mind.

“I’m actually enjoying the fact I can have a relationship with my girlfriend where I’m really pleasant and I’m not [expletive]-ing up totally all the time,” he says.

What’s even better, he doesn’t regret the life he once had.

“As much as I would love to be a person that goes to parties and has a couple of drinks and has a nice time, that doesn’t work for me. I do that very unsuccessfully,” Radcliffe explains.

“I’d just rather sit at home and read, or talk to somebody that makes me laugh. There’s no shame in enjoying the quiet life. And that’s been the realization of the past few years for me,” the “Harry Potter” actor underlines.

This wouldn’t be the first time that Daniel takes a stand against what is known as “the Hollywood lifestyle”: some time ago, he said he’d rather be labeled anything than a Hollywood star, because he didn’t see himself as belonging to that world, as we also noted at the time.
