Experts often warn of the dangers of DIY beauty treatments, understood as complex procedures done at home with kits bought online or from suspicious retailers, which, under normal circumstances, can only be performed at medical facilities by specialized personnel.

However, no other case can draw attention to said dangers as that of Hang Mioku, a former model from Korea.

Mioku’s name has been in the headlines before because, out of her obsession with beauty and youth, she turned herself into a monster, as the Daily Mail puts it.

Every once in a while, she resurfaces to remind women all over the world not to trust “doctors” if they can’t provide proper certification, and certainly not to take matters into their own hands when it comes to doing certain procedures.

When she was 28, Mioku was a singer and a model, and a gorgeous woman.

Probably thinking she wasn’t pretty enough or trying to make her good looks last longer, she turned to “doctors” who injected her with silicone in the face.

She wanted to maintain that “youthful glow” for longer, as the video below also explains.

When she no longer had the money to get the injections, she thought she could take cooking oil and use it instead, so she started injecting herself in the face with it.

Today, not even her own mother can recognize her – and that’s after she went under the knife several times and doctors removed from there large quantities of silicone and oil.

She wishes she could turn back time and undo all the damage she’s done to herself but that’s not possible. After 10 interventions, it’s clear that she will never even resemble her old self, because she’s scarred and deformed for life.

Her face isn’t as oversized as it was, but it’s beyond repair.
