The world of football suffered another tragic accident this weekend. A young footballer from Denmark was struck by lightening during an official match in the Danish League. His team - Ulfborg's junior squad - played this Saturday on a torrential rain against Mabjerg.
The lightening struck the player and affected 3 others staying near him on the field. They were all carried out and taken to the nearest hospital by the club's ambulances, but the player did not make it. He died on Sunday due to severe burnings.
The three other players escaped and are now in stable condition. The doctors said that it was a miracle the three remaining footballers escaped from death.
This is not the first time such an incident happened on the football field. Only one season ago, an African Cup qualifying match ended the same, with most of the 22 footballers on the pitch being transported to the hospital due to lightening-related injuries.
The football tragedies are becoming an increasing issue in the last few years, after fans & footballers become victims of unfortunate accidents or violent acts. Most of them took place in Africa, with hundreds of fans dying from excessive violence on football stadiums.
