British actress Helen Mirren is not against plastic surgery. Though she personally never had any work done, she doesn’t blame those women and men who wish to change their appearance. However, when it comes to young people, she’s of a different mind.

Having spoken about plastic surgery before and saying that she would never judge anyone who opted for it, Mirren is now adding a bit more nuance to her statement, Radar Online informs.

It’s ok for people of a certain age to go under the knife because it’s natural to want to always look your best. When young people do it, it’s not ok, because they’re ruining what they already have.

“The only thing I don’t like on young people is plastic surgery,” the 66-year-old actress says when asked what kind of advice she’d give young people.

Coming from a woman who is still considered among the top hottest in showbiz right now and who, despite her age, is not afraid to show off her body in magazine photospreads, this should weigh heavily in the balance.

“The purity of youthful beauty is so fantastic to me that it’s horrific when young girls get fake things,” Mirren further says.

In saying these things, the actress joins a long line of British actress speaking out recently against plastic surgery.

Just yesterday, for instance, Kate Winslet said that she and good friends Emma Thompson and Rachel Weisz had formed what she liked to call the “British Anti-Cosmetic Surgery League.”

This was their official stand on plastic surgery: actresses should not allow others to tell them that their natural beauty is not good enough, especially when they had to sacrifice so much to attain the industry’s impossible standards.

“I will never give in. It goes against my morals, the way that my parents brought me up and what I consider to be natural beauty,” Winslet said, as we also reported.

“I am an actress, I don’t want to freeze the expression of my face,” she added.

Hmmmm. I dont mind cosmetic surgery but I think it is such a personal decision and one that is obviously under so much scrutiny that one would want to be very careful of who they told what about themselves to. I also think that in this society, if you are obviously "flawed" in some way, then whether we agree with it or not, then these people will not be treated as well by others-or initially anyway so surgery for the right reasons-for yourself and not to gain someone else's approval might be something to think about. But to do it truly for yourself is something that comes with age. The last thing we need is a bunch of kids dealing with post surgery regret from doing it too young!
