Dakar 2: The World's Ultimate Rally is a video game developed by Acclaim Studios Cheltenham and published by Acclaim Entertainment Inc. The game was created for the PlayStation 2 console from Sony, the original Xbox from Microsoft and the GameCube. It was launched in 2003. The title is classed as being a racing simulation played from a first person perspective or a third person perspective, with the game also sporting a license from the Dakar Rally organizers.
As the name implies, Dakar 2: The World's Ultimate Rally is a racing game that aims to wholly simulate the Paris - Dakar rally with all that it implies. No game can actually re-create the whole 6 000 kilometers of that race but this game manages something pretty close to the real thing, with 12 tracks which go from France to Dakar and which aim to reflect the various environments through which the cars go through.
The tracks take racers through cities, forests and the desert. The most interesting are the desert tracks, where you can try to find your own way, finding checkpoints faster than the other competitors.
The player has the option to choose racing cars, motorbikes or trucks. The game also has an arcade racing mode, where you can instantly jump in to play any race, and there is support for split screen multiplayer.
