Do you often get bored while road tripping? Here's a possible solution to this "life threatening situation". DXG, a US-based digital camera manufacturer, thought that if you're one of those young adult "road warriors" you might need games on your handheld camcorder. This is not the first time
someone tries to toss games into a device that was not used for gaming. Take PDC's Guide Dog for example (includes GPS and gaming) .
With its flip screen hanging sideways, the DXG-589V looks a lot like Sanyo's Xacti HD2. Unfortunately, this is where the similarities between the two end. It doesn't boast a good resolution and neither HD capturing abilities, so forget about shooting that backyard documentary you planed for this weekend. Anyway, for 199$, the specs aren't that bad. Here it goes. It comes with a 3-inch LTPS monitor, 5 Megapixel CMOS sensor, MP3 support, a rechargeable Li-ion battery. The bad news is that it records full-motion MPEG-4 video at just 630X480 at 30 frames per second (and JPEG images up to 10 Megapixels). The DXG-589V has the ability to directly record video from TV, DVD players and VCRs. Video files can be saved onto the SD card to be enjoyed later.
The flip screen comes with game toggle dial that lets you easily play 20 built-in full-color 2D or 3D video games (make that SuperMario like video games). The DXG-589V also "triples" as a digital music player allowing you to listen to your favorite tracks while pushing frenetically those SonyPlaystion-like control buttons.
If you want it, you can nab this handycam-Gameboy-DAP combo from Best Buy or Circuit City.
