It doesn't take much to start a crazy trend in Japan and once you do, you'll sell millions and millions of albums, gadgets or clothes, as long as the public digs your innovation. The Nintendo DS is one of the best-selling consoles in the world right now and, as such, it receives various accessories which boost its sales and create new trends.

This time we're dealing with a TV tuner that can be attached to the console and it might be a small gadget, but it caused Nintendo site crashes, huge pre-orders and a massive sell out. The "DS TV" adaptor receives 1seg telecasting and it was made available for pre-orders on November 8. You'll realize how popular the adaptor really is if you take into consideration the fact that the first orders for the gadget could be received at 1 p.m and the Nintendo site started experiencing issues at 3 p.m.

The Japanese company chose not to make a big fuss out of the whole thing and woke up to find a laggy official site because of too many orders. That's probably one of the few under-hyped products we've seen this year and of course it's related to the hottest console manufacturer right now, Nintendo. In case you're curious, the DS users will turn one of the console's screens into some sort of remote, changing channels and controlling the volume with the aid of the touchscreen system. Meanwhile, the other display is used a standard television set, also featuring the ability of taking screenshots and recording videos.

If you get bored, there's also a virtual companion, call "TV-yan" that will watch television by your side, which is quite an original feature, but something one could expect from Nintendo. The highly popular gadget will be bought by approximately 18.5% of the DS owners, as the statistics have shown and that's quite a large number of gamers, since more than 20 millions DS units were sold in Japan till now.
