Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless has started the deployment of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for the owners of a DROID XYBOARD 8.2 tablet PC on its network.

The company has provided specific info on what the new update is set to bring to devices only several days ago, yet no details on when the roll-out was planned to start were unveiled at that time.

“UPDATE: DROID XYBOARD 8.2 joins the DROID XYBOARD 10.1 and is upgrading to Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. Beginning today, the upgrade is being pushed out in phases to customers and features the same great benefits as the XYBOARD 10.1 upgrade,” Verizon announced in a recent post.

In addition to the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system, the upgrade brings along a series of performance enhancements to the device, as well as various fixes.
