Two new, highly-appealing smartphones are now available for pre-order from wireless carrier Verizon, namely DROID X2 from Motorola, and the Xperia PLAY from Sony Ericsson, both of them set to be fully available for acquisition starting with May 26th.

The Motorola DROID X2 has been one of the most rumored handsets on its way to Verizon Wireless during the ongoing year, but it was already introduced officially.

The mobile phone sports a dual-core application processor clocked in at 1GHz, a large 4.3-inch touchscreen display, 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 8GB of internal memory, and an 8GB microSD included in the package (supports up to 32GB).

Moreover, the new device would sport an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with 720p HD video recording capabilities, as well as as HDMI with mirror capabilities, the usual set of sensors, and Google's Android 2.2 Froyo OS.

The smartphone is available for reservations through Verizon's website at $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with the wireless carrier, but it can be pre-ordered for only $149.99 via Wirefly and Amazon, here and here.

As stated above, the handset is expected to become available for purchase through all channels come May 26th, and should be delivered on that day to those reserving it starting today.

As for the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, we should note that it is the first PlayStation certified smartphone in the world, based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system.

It was announced during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February, but Verizon unveiled info on its availability on its airwaves only recently.

Listed on Verizon's website here, the smartphone features a price tag of $199.99 with the signing of a contract agreement with the wireless carrier, while being priced at $449.99, contract free.

According to Verizon, those who would pre-order Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY today would receive it on May 25th, with the sliding gamepad and the pre-loaded titles included in the mix.
