The latest DROID sees higher than expected demand

Just as everyone was expecting, the DROID X sold out. Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless announced a few days ago that it managed to secure enough units to meet demand, but it seems that the handset was much more appealing than expected. Most DROID X units out there, if not all, went out the door during the first day of availability, and Verizon attached the “Will be shipped by” badge to the device on its website, just as it previously did with the high end DROID Incredible.

“This has been a very good day one for Droid X sales. Customers were in line at midnight in some markets, in other places there were lines when the stores opened and in other stores there has been a steady stream of customers. We have been successful at keeping up with early demand but at present inventory in some parts of the country is either low or out. (It truly varies around the country.) Since we have weekly shipments planned, customers can still order phones and can expect them to be shipped on or before July 23. This link shows you some of the excitement from midnight in Columbia, MD.” is what the company had to say on the matter.

Considering the success Verizon's previous DROID handset had, it was only natural that customers' excitement went up as newer, more powerful mobile phones were added to the lineup. Building on the success of DROID by Motorola and on the popularity of DROID Incredible by HTC, the newly released DROID X by Motorola enjoyed strong demand, and might keep momentum for quite a while. However, that would greatly depend on the manner in which Verizon and Motorola manage to handle stock shortages.

Verizon has had a great deal of issues with keeping up with demand for another Android-based mobile phone, the DROID Incredible, which is currently said to be shipping by August 3, the same date the wireless carrier pointed at last week. All in all, it seems that Big Red's issues with Incredible's stock might have come to an end, either due to slower demand, or to a larger number of units being shipped from HTC. The DROID X by Motorola can be seen on Verizon's website here, while the DROID Incredible by HTC is available here.
