With only two buttons

Not too long ago, DROID X by Motorola, the latest Android-based device launched in the US by mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless, has been rooted. The root access was achieved only one week after the handset was put on sale at Verizon, despite the fact that Motorola announced the introduction of a series of measures with the phone's bootloader, aimed at preventing hackers from rooting the device and from installing custom ROMs on it.

In case there were some who considered the rooting process for DROID X as being a far too lengthy process, and a complicated one, for that matter, they should know that a new solution is now available for them, enabling a faster and “safer” rooting of the phone. A recently released application enables DROID X owners to root their device, in case they would like to do so, and all is doable via only one click, just as seen in the shot attached to this article.

The app emerged over at the AllDroid forums, and can be used on Windows-based computers, with the sole requirement being .NET 3.5 Framework. Here's how the application is described in that forum post: “This is a GUI program to root/unroot your DroidX phone. No Android SDK install required. All drivers are installed if needed. Just two buttons, ROOT and UNROOT! Follow the instructions on the screen and you'll be rooted in a matter of seconds.”

Those who intend to root their devices should know that they would be doing so at their own risk. Chances are that something would go wrong during the process and the device would be bricked, but certainly there are a lot of people willing to take that risk. More info on the application and on what the rooting process involves can be found over at AllDroid.

According to the aforementioned forum post, “at the moment, rootshell is left on the device for easy unrooting. It is modified so that only my program may use it, however, if someone does figure out away around using rootshell, I am not held responsible. This feature will be replaced with using su in the next release.”
