DROID X by Motorola is on its way to getting a new software update from its carrier, namely Android 2.2 Froyo, at least this is what a page on the well known droiddoes.com website states.

“Great news! Verizon Wireless has released the new Android 2.2 software update for DROID X by Motorola. The new Android 2.2 software update - also known as “Froyo” - includes many new features for your phone and tons of shortcuts,” one can read on the said page.

When it comes to Verizon's DROID family of Android-based mobile phones, the DROID X by Motorola is the only one without the latest flavor of Google's mobile operating system on board.

The original DROID got it in early August, followed by DROID Incredible by HTC not long after, not to mention that the DROID 2 device came with Android 2.2 on board right from the start.

However, it seems that the wait might be finally over for all DROID X owners out there, as Verizon is touting the availability of the new solution on its websites.

There are a nice range of enhancements that Android 2.2 Froyo is set to bring to DROID X units out there, including a series of performance enhancements.

Some of the novelties in this OS version, highlighted by Verizon too, include: - Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for Android - Improved Web browsing to view your favorite Flash powered websites and access Flash based games for Android pre-installed. - Automatic Software Updates - choose to automatically update Android Market Apps you've downloaded, so you always have the latest application version installed. - 270° Screen Rotation - applications will now work when the phone is in portrait mode or turned to the left or right in landscape mode.

The new solution should be delivered to users as an over the air update, the same as it was pushed out to DROID and DROID Incredible units, though it might also become available for download online in the near future.

“While the update is free, data charges may apply,” the wireless carrier announced.

What is not clear at the moment is whether the update already kicked off, or Verizon is just announcing its close availability, as Android Central notes in a recent article, so stay tuned to learn more on this.
