Android 2.3 Gingerbread, the latest flavor of Google's mobile operating system, is expected to become available for the HTC DROID Incredible on Verizon Wireless' airwaves sometime in June, if some of the latest reports around the Internet are to be believed.

We already learned that Verizon is gearing up for the release of Android 2.3 Gingerbread for the ThunderBolt sometime in the second quarter of the ongoing year, and it seems that the carrier would plan on making the move for more devices.

However, the same as with the 4G LTE-capable handset, the news on the near availability of this software update for it comes from HTC.

In a recent email sent as response to a customer inquiry, the handset vendor said that Gingerbread is headed for the DROID Incredible by the end of this quarter.

“I will be happy to assist with your software update inquiry. Indeed the Incredible is going to get 2.3 Gingerbread and we expect to be ready to release it with Verizon before the end of the second quarter of this year,” the said email reportedly reads.

Since no exact release date was mentioned at this time, some assumed that the update would be released closer to the end of the quarter, rather than earlier.

Of course, it does not come as a surprise that the mobile phone maker plans the release of Android 2.3 gingerbread for this handset, since the company already committed to the release of this OS upgrade for its Android 2.2 Froyo-running phones.

While an email coming for a support representative can not be considered an official announcement, it is reassuring that HTC's stuff would confirm the upcoming arrival of the new software.

With both ThunderBolt and DROID Incredible set to receive the software update sometime in the following three months, other Verizon devices might also share a similar fate, so stay tuned to learn more info on this.
