DROID Incredible users who are interested in rooting their devices so as to expand the functionality available for them have now a new flavor of the Unrevoked application available for download for them, namely version 3.22.

The new release comes with some enhancements into the mix, as well as with some fixes for issues that the latest software update for the DROID Incredible caused.

Here's what one can read in the release notes for Unrevoked 3.22:

- Fix for latest Incredible OTA. - New Mac OS X build infrastructure; let us know if it broke for you. - Switched to in-house reimplementation of rageagainstthecage for better reliability.

As of version 3.0, the Unrevoked offers users root access, while replacing the stock Android recovery with a custom one, offering users the possibility to easily install custom ROMs on their devices.

“unrevoked3 is a tool to flash a custom recovery image to your Android phone,” the team behind the tool notes.

“A custom recovery image allows you to perform advanced tasks on the system partition, such as flashing custom ROMs and taking a full backup of your phone (a “nandroid” backup). We recommend installing the custom recovery image for all users who want rooted phones.”

Although we referred only to DROID Incredible above, the tool offers support for other Android-based devices as well.

The list of supported handsets includes: Sprint EVO 4G (HTC Supersonic), Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible), HTC Desire GSM, HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC), HTC Aria, Droid Eris (HTC DesireC), and HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz).

At the same time, developers of this application say that it should permanently unlock NAND write protection on Sprint EVO 4G, Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible), and HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC).

“We have noticed that the core mechanisms behind unrevoked3 may apply to other rooted current-generation HTC phones running Android 2.2. At this time, the tool does not support other phones; if you have an unsupported phone of that description, please get in contact with us,” the team notes.
