Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless is reportedly gearing up for the release of a new software update for one of its Android-based mobile phones, the DROID Charge by Samsung.

Set to arrive as build EE4, the new software update for the carrier's second 4G LTE-capable mobile phone should bring along a wide range of enhancements, including some improvements to the network connectivity.

However, these are not the only changes that the software update will make on the mobile phone, as these are also some related to the handset's calling features, as well as others aimed at its email and messaging capabilities.

As soon as the new software update is loaded on the DROID Charge, users should enjoy more accurate detection of Verizon Wireless' 4G LTE and 3G networks, and improved connectivity capabilities.

The performance of the mobile browser loaded on this device was also enhanced, and there are also a series of improvements to the GPS receiver included into the mix.

Among the other changes the update will bring, we can count restoration of Mobile Hotspot capability, along with the ability to recognize ringtones purchased from the Verizon Wireless website.

Following the installation of the new software, the handset will be immediately recognized when connected to a computer, when in USB Mass Storage mode (UMS).

The release notes for the new software update also include:

Call Features - Improved battery life when placing a voice call. - Easily return calls within the call log entry by pressing the phone icon. - Outgoing calls from the Visual Voice Mail application will be placed properly. - Pressing and holding the ‘1’ key will automatically route the user to the Voice Mail service. - Audio has been adjusted to avoid ‘No Audio’ or ‘Screeching Sounds’.

Email and Messaging

- A new Email folder structure has been implemented. When a subfolder exists under a current Email folder, an arrow will appear to the right of the folder icon. When a user touches the arrow, the folder system will expand to show all subfolders available for selection - When an Exchange password has been modified, the device will direct the user to the password screen to adjust the saved password accordingly. - Improvements in the Email and Calendar sync.

Additional details on this software update are available on Verizon's support website. The software will weight in at 9.9MB, and it seems that it was already approved for deployment, with the roll-out expected to start in the very near future.
