DROID Charge, the second LTE-capable Android-based smartphone that Verizon Wireless brought to its network, is now available for purchase through Amazon for a little less than what the wireless carrier is asking for.

The retailer has made the Android smartphone available for only $199.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement with Verizon,

The handset was made available for purchase through Big Red for $249.99 on contract, but Amazon would offer users the possibility to enjoy the phone's capabilities for $50 less.

The new DROID Charge was unveiled to the world in early January during the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but was made available for purchase at Verizon only a few weeks ago.

Some feared that it might have been canceled, since Verizon delayed its release for a couple of months.

The Droid Charge by Samsung delivers exactly what you'd expect from the collision of Droid power and Verizon 4G LTE network speeds,” Amazon notes on their website.

“It runs a fast 1GHz Hummingbird processor and boasts a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus screen--it's the fastest and most powerful Droid ever created, and the first Droid built for Verizon's 4G LTE network.”

On the downside, the handset runs under Android 2.2 Froyo, yet there still are a wide range of features that it would be capable of offering to its users, such as support for Adobe Flash 10.2, so that users would enjoy a great Internet browsing experience.

The specifications list of the new device includes 2 GB of internal memory, along with a pre-loaded 32GB microSD memory card, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities, Mobile Hotspot, or AllShare with DLNA certification.

It would also offer GPS receiver with support for VZ Navigator and Google Maps, as well as support for various other services and applications from Verizon and Google, including V-Cast, GTalk or Google Search by voice. Applications can be downloaded from the Android Market.

The DROID Charge by Samsung can be purchased from Amazon's website here.
