In roughly one week from now, Verizon Wireless customers should be able to purchase a new Android-based mobile phone on their wireless carrier's airwaves, as the DROID Bionic from Motorola should arrive on shelves on September 8th, some of the latest reports on the matter suggest. The handset was long rumored to be on its way to Verizon in early September, and it seems that all has been confirmed.

Motorola has already listed the mobile phone on its online store, where the older DROID Bionic model was already presented with the model number XT865 next to it.

However, it appears that the new device was briefly showed on the website, as model number XT875, but it was already pulled down.

Even so, some people already managed to have a look at it, and came up with a series of screenshots to confirm that.

But this is not all. The release date for the DROID Bionic was confirmed in a more or less official manner via @DroidBionic, the official Twitter account that follows the mobile phone.

“On September 8th 2011, the Motorola Droid Bionic will be in your hands,” a recent tweet from the said account stated.

Since the tweet was still up at the time of this article, we can assume that Motorola has indeed confirmed the launch, although in a rather unusual manner.

The announced release date is in line with some of the previously rumored launch dates for the mobile phone, yet no official word from Motorola or Verizon has emerged so far.

All in all, it appears that enthusiasts will soon be able to purchase yet another high-end Android smartphone on Verizon's airwaves, one that also brings support for the wireless carrier's 4G LTE network.

In the end, this feature, along with the promise of high-end, appealing hardware specs is the main reason for which the hype around DROID Bionic is still high, although the device was introduced in January and got delayed by over four months. Update: Apparently, the @DroidBionic Twitter account is not as official as we were hoping for it to be. Verizon confirmed it, and the people behind the account did the same. September remains the targeted release window for DROID Bionic, but the exact date is still a mystery.
