The latest mobile phone included in Verizon Wireless' DROID lineup, the Motorola DROID 2, is now available for purchase from LetsTalk for only $99.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement. Verizon has it for $199.99 on contract.

Android fans in the United States have now the possibility to purchase the latest DROID device in Verizon Wireless' offering at half the price the carrier asks for it while committing to a two-year service agreement with the carrier.

We're referring here to the DROID 2 by Motorola, which is currently available for purchase via LetsTalk for only $99.99 on contract, while Verizon has the device on sale via its channels, including online sales, for $199.99.

Unfortunately, it seems that only new customers would benefit from the special offering the retailer has put in place for the mobile phone, and that existing customers would have to get the device for the same price as Verizon has it available at.

Interestingly enough, the price cut emerged only a few days after the handset was officially launched on Verizon's network, similar with what has happened with the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 for AT&T over at Amazon.

The DROID 2 was put on sale last week at Verizon Wireless, sporting a 3.7-inchy touchscreen display, complemented by a TI OMAP 1GHz processor with Dedicated GPU, a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording, and 8GB of internal memory, which can be expanded via the microSD memory card slot that supports cards of up to 32GB (an 8GB card pre–installed).

The specifications list of this device also includes a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 3G Mobile Hotspot capabilities, the Android 2.2 (Froyo) OS with Motorola's Application Platform on top of it, a 1400 mAH Li–Ion, Skype Mobile, Bluetooth 2.1 and Wi-Fi connectivity options, and more.

The new DROID 2 by Motorola can be seen on Verizon's website here. Those interested the offering LetsTalk put in place for the handset should head here. (via phone Arena)
