Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless seems set to clear up some inventory to make room for new devices on its airwaves, and DROID 2 by Motorola is among those handsets which just got cheaper in the process. Allegedly, the company is nearing the official launch of a new Android-based handset, the DROID 2 Global, and it makes sense to have the “older” model at a lower price tag.

Verizon Wireless customers interested in the purchase of this device have now the possibility to get it for only $149.99 upon the signing of a two-year contract agreement and after a $100 mail-in rebate.

On top of that, they are also offered the possibility to receive a second DROID 2 smartphone for free, as the carrier made the handset available via its BOGO promotion too.

Through this Buy One Get One deal, users can buy the DROID 2 by Motorola and get another one for free, though they need to sign in for a two-year contract agreement for the second device too.

The DROID 2 by Motorola is the successor of the Motorola DROID device, which arrived at Verizon Wireless one year ago, and which became the most popular smartphone at Big Red shortly.

The same as the original DROID, the DROID 2 smartphone sports a touchscreen display complemented by a sliding QWERTY keyboard, while offering a great deal of high-end capabilities to its users.

Rumor has it that the device would be followed pretty soon by a DROID 2 Global smartphone, also from Motorola, but with better, more appealing specs.

Among them, we can count a 1.2GHz application processor, as well as support for global connectivity. Not to mention that the new phone might arrive both in black and white flavors.

However, nothing was announced officially on DROID 2 Global for the time being, and it might take some time before Verizon decides to make the move.

In the meantime, users can check on DROID 2 by Motorola on the carrier's website here.
