Market analysts predict ascendant pricing tendencies for DRAM in the wake of record monthly sales. Taiwanese DRAM makers Nanya Technology Corp., Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. and ProMOS Technologies Inc. announced record revenues for August. While Nanya's income jumped 32% to a record high of $202 million, Powerchip Semiconductor Corp. posted sales of $245 million, while ProMOS's sales also hit a record level at $183 million.

"DRAM contract and spot prices continued to rise last month, but we also benefitted from our 90-nanometer process," said Ben Tseng, spokesman for ProMOS, as the company is increasingly implementing 90-nanometer production technology, diminishing size and cost while boosting power and efficiency.

According to DRAMeXchange Technology Inc., DRAM, 512Mb DDR2 chips are sold for a spot price of $6. In the context of strong PC sales forecast for the end of the year, followed by Microsoft's launching of Windows Vista in early 2007, DRAM prices will continue to rise, although analysts suggest that the trend will not drive up the overall price of computers.
