Not exactly the best news to wake up to, but there it is

Contrary to how the situation used to be a couple of years ago, the DRAM market continues to experience a steady rise in average prices.

Most recently, DRAMeXchange determined that average prices went up again in early October 2013.

ASPs for 4Gb chips, for example, reached $3.94 / €2.87.

DRAM contract prices started going up in September, and rallied again earlier this month.

A reduction in the global supply as a result of a fire at SK Hynix' main DRAM production facility is to blame for this. Said fire happened in early September, but its consequences will probably make themselves felt until the end of the year.

It's just our luck that this happened so close to the winter holiday season. No doubt, the rest of October will prove similarly prone towards making prices go up.
