Consumers might want to buy a module or two now, before it's too late

Back in 2011 and 2010, DRAM products had become so cheap that 8 GB modules were selling for the same amount as 4 GB used to a year prior.

That was owed to a severe oversupply brought about by too quick an advancement in manufacturing processes and inventory expansion.

Now, after months upon months of controlled supply capacity and orders, DRAM supply and demand are more balanced.

This has allowed prices to start rising again. In fact, according to IC Insights, DRAM prices are rebounding.

After increasing 22% on-year in the first quarter, they jumped 42% in Q2, compared to the same period of the previous year (April – June), according to IC Insights.

The ASP (average selling price) for DRAM chips is of $2,53 at the moment (€1.93) and should rise further in Q3 and Q4, 2013.
