The month of April is proving to be quite fruitful for chip makers

Much as consumers might hate it, memory products have been growing in price over the past several months, and it seems April is no different.

In fact, according to a report by DRAMeXchange, contract prices for 4 GB DDR3 modules increased by 8% during the first two weeks of the month.

That has left them at an average tag of $25.50 / €19.53 – 25.50, thanks to supply adjustments and a steady rise in demand.

It is surprising really, knowing that PCs have been selling less, especially desktops.

Then again, Micron's merger with Elpida has put PC makers on edge, enough to make them order larger quantities and restock early.

Knowing that prices are only expected to go up, it may have been a good idea. Mobile and server DRAM continues to be more profitable to companies though.
