Video game developer Valve says that the implementation of a communication ban in DOTA 2 managed to make the game environment friendlier and has actually modified the behavior of those who were flagged as being negative.

The team states in an official post that, “Our data shows this is working exactly as we hoped – many players banned eventually reach a ban free communication style, and the percentage of players being reported for communication bans is dropping over time.”

Valve says that it is trying to make sure that DOTA 2 is a game that draws in both veterans and newcomers and that means making sure that negative behavior does not drive fans away.

Data gathered shows that DOTA 2 has seen a drop of 35 percent in terms of negative interactions and that 60 percent of those who have received bans no longer engage in bad communication.
