Rapper DMX is again in the headlines for his apparent inability to stay out of trouble with the law. Police confirm for E! News that he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and charged with 3 counts.

The arrest took place near Greenville, SC, earlier this week.

“A spokesman for the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a trooper received a call about a possible DUI driver and subsequently observed the hip-hop star, real name Earl Simmons, driving erratically in his Plymouth station wagon and pulled him over,” the celebrity publication writes.

Because he was showing signs of being intoxicated, DMX was asked to take a breathalyzer, which confirmed this suspicion.

The rapper was taken to the police station, where he was booked and subsequently charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license and driving without a seatbelt.

Even though police have confirmed the arrest and, more importantly, the causes for the arrest, a rep for the rapper insists that he wasn’t intoxicated behind the wheel.

However, the publicist does acknowledge the arrest, but makes it sound as if it was a mere misunderstanding.

“Allegations about DMX being arrested for drunk driving are false. He was arrested early this morning but quickly released. X was given a breathalyzer test and easily passed it,” says the publicist.

“He is back at his home in South Carolina and we are continuing our focus on his upcoming album and acting roles,” the statement further says.

2013 has been a pretty “busy” year for DMX: in February, he was caught driving without a license, arrested and released shortly afterwards without being charged.

Later this year, in April, he sat down for an interview for Oprah’s OWN network, in which he talked very candidly about his severe drug use. Shortly after, he changed his mind about the admission, said he’d been tricked into making it and threatened to sue Oprah.

No word if he ever did.
