Texas Instruments will soon present a mini DLP projector

Texas Instruments will unveil a prototype of a DLP (Digital Light Processing) pico-projector during the 2007 CTIA Wireless Convention. TI's DLP pico-projector technology is supposed to change the way people view content on their mobile devices. The fingertip sized device (1.3 inch) comes with a trio of lasers and a DLP chip.

The projector is capable of delivering widescreen TV images in DVD-quality images. That means mobile phones, DAPs and digital cameras could soon use this technology in order to let you display content on any flat surface. Stand alone pocket projectors are already present in the market today from Mitsubishi, Samsung and Toshiba. The DLP pico-projector prototype is trying to build on the 2006 introduction of DLP-based pocket projector. TI already demonstrated the viewing experience advantage of showing mobile content on a pocket projector back in January 2007.

DLP projectors firms could enjoy a spike in revenue since Pacific Media Associates (PMA), a global research firm, announced that the market will grow to more than 1 Million units by 2010. That means big bucks for both DLP projectors firms and handset vendors.

As the OMAP wireless has helped TV suit mobile phones, the new technology will bring a new vibe in the mobile industry. Mobile phones users will probably enjoy smoother images, crisp and clear presentation of fast motion video and graphics and also vibrant colors and better picture reliability over time. The prototype should also make mobile TV broadcasters think how to better control the masses in the future. Anyway, it's not yet clear whether customers are willing to pay extra money in order to get a bigger content view.
