Not so long ago, we told you that Chinese company DJI known for its commercial and recreational UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicle) was gearing up to launch a new drone.

Actually, the Inspire 1 quadcopter leaked in a few images showing it during a test flight a few days ago. Now DJI has stepped out to officially announce the new drone.

DJI's  new Inspire drone is quite expensive

The new DJI Inspire 1 flying copter will not come cheap, as it goes on sale for the price tag of $2,899 / €2,329, but that’s because the drone is aimed for the prosumer market and also sells with a stabilized 4K camera.

The Inspire One rocks a sleek white chassis which packs a three-axis gimbal mounted camera that can shoot 12MP photos and 4K video at 30, 25 and 24 fps.

This is a default camera which is available with a 94-degree field of view that can be changed by those who don’t really like it. Actually, users will be able to pop it on and off at will and the drone will eventually support different cameras, but for the time being there’s only one option available.

The Inspire 1 also takes advantage of stereoscopic optic flow camera which is there to help stabilize the drone, no GPS technology being involved.

The drone is controlled by a dual-stick remote, packed with toggles and switches, that controls the gimbal and camera settings mid-flight.

Inspire1 utilizes a wireless HD transmitter that delivers a live feed from the drone’s camera via the company’s Lightbridge which offers video data transmission from up to 1.7 km / 1.05 miles.

Basically, what the drone sees you can see too, on your smartphone or tablet over USB or outputted right on a monitor or recording device from an HDMI port living on the controller’s back.

The drone is powered by a 6-cell battery that will keep it flying for about 18 minutes, which is in league with most similar products out there.

You can get additional accessories with the drone

The basic bundle contains drone plus camera and a controller, but if you’re willing to throw in another $500 / €401, DJI will offer you an extra remote.

The Inspire 1 is pretty expensive for the average drone fan, but if you’re interested nevertheless, you can head on over to the DJI official website because pre-orders start today.

We’re not quite sure when shipping out to customers starts, given that DJI has a few things to refine in terms of software, before it offers the products to adopters.
