Coming during fall

DJ Hero will be surprising a lot of people when it's released in the coming fall for the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo Wii and the PlayStation 2. The game, which is part of Activision's plan to dominate the world via its Hero franchise, will bring with it its own peripheral, a turntable that it set to offer players the freedom to mess around with a lot of well-known tracks.

DJ Shadow, who has had some hands on time with DJ Hero, told Game Informer that “I don't think a lot of the people that made some of the music we're involved with have ever allowed their music to be so freely messed with, you know what I mean? And I think that this game - I definitely think it will raise some eyebrows on that level.”

The gameplay of DJ Hero will be based on two records and a sample track as players will try to use them to replicate the music that they are hearing. The tracks will be full of scratches and other mixing hallmarks that will need to be replicated by the player. DJ Shadow says that the game is simple enough that an 8-year-old could be interested in playing it but that you really need to put some time and energy into figuring out how to use the peripheral to play the game well.

DJ Shadow also commented on the difficulty level, saying that “I mean I've heard people say that with Guitar Hero it's the same thing, like just because you're virtuoso, just because you're Joe Satriani doesn't mean that you're going to be able to kick right into Guitar Hero and be an incredible game player. It's the same with DJ Hero, it takes practice to kind of not look like an idiot.”

Probably more of DJ Hero will be shown off by Activision at the upcoming E3.
