Wireless connectivity is something that has become quite common on both the consumer and enterprise markets, and D-Link figured it was time for its newest product of this sort to finally make it to market.

Routers are network devices whose main purpose is to distribute available bandwidth between multiple computers.

While this might seem like a not overly impressive role, the fact is that the router is what, in the end, determines just how good the networking performance of all systems connected to it is.

The router, provided it is outfitted with such things, also enforces some security protocols and offers encryption, to defend against Internet threats.

Nowadays, two types of this product exist, the regular one and the wireless one, and it is the latter category that the D-Link DIR-651 fits into.

Basically, the DIR-651 is a Wireless N 300 Gigabit router with two antennas, so that it may handle 802.11n connections.

There are also four Gigabit Ethernet ports on the back, so that PCs may be connected via cable to it as well, should one so prefer.

“The Wireless N 300 Gigabit Router is an excellent solution for creating a strong network foundation in today’s home,” says Daniel Kelley, associate vice president of consumer marketing, D-Link North America.

“With the increase in home VoIP calling, video streaming, online gaming, and of course web browsing, a fast, high-performing wireless network that can support multiple devices has become a necessity, and the DIR-651 is an ideal choice in building that network.”

The antennas should cover a wide area, while the speed, wireless or otherwise, should make any web browsing, media streaming and data sharing quick and efficient.

Finally, it is the support for the WPA and WPA2 security standards that covers the whole data security side of the equation, plus WiFi Protected Setup (WPS).

Online stores should already have the newcomer listed with a price of $89.99.
