The original Mirror's Edge was a commercial flop and publisher Electronic Arts has not made any mention about a possible sequel for the free running game but one of the developers working at DICE believes that there's a market for such a game.

Speaking to SPOng during a recent Battlefield 3 marketing event taking place in London, Patrick Liu, who is one of the producers working at DICE, has talked about Mirror's Edge and its future, saying, “I think it’s something that people are ready to get into again.”

He added, “We see that there’s a huge fan following, it’s almost like a cult! And we know what strengths we had, and what weaknesses we had in that game. If we were to release a new game, we’d know what to improve and how to reach a broader audience. So I definitely think there’s a market there.”

At the moment DICE is focused on working on Battlefield 3, the first person shooter that uses the all new Frostbite 2 engine, and much of the team will also work on tweaking the multiplayer experience post launch and on providing more content throughout 2012.

Frank Gibeau, who is the leader of the Labels division at Electronic Arts, has also talked about the possibility of a new Mirror's Edge title, saying that it could be done using the new game engine that DICE has created.

The first game put the player in the role of a female courier who needed to navigate a city ruled by a Big Brother like entity delivering messages.

The gameplay was based around running, jumping and ducking around with grace and picking up a game actually put the player at a disadvantage.

The game was widely praised by critics for its innovation but the sales were disappointing and EA decided to use the DICE resources elsewhere.
