The team is using the Lucasfilm archives as inspiration

Karl-Magnus Troedsson, the leader of DICE, suggests that his team might have some form of limited access to the upcoming seventh Star Wars movie creation process. This would allow them to implement some elements linked to it in the upcoming Battlefront game that's based on the same franchise but will have a different core story.

When asked about the deal that his company has with Lucasfilm, the executive told CVG that, “we've been given access to the archives. I was invited but couldn't go because I was held up with meetings... that's probably something I'm going to regret for the rest of my life! Naturally I talked to the team and as you saw it was a moving experience definitely.”

The seventh Star Wars movie is at the moment in the filming phase and Disney, who now owns the intellectual property, says that it already has plans for at least two sequels and for some spin-offs.

Star Wars Battlefront will use the classic shooter mechanics of the series, but DICE says that it is also aiming to deliver its own unique twist on the formula.

No clear details about it have been offered so far, but publisher Electronic Arts will probably ramp up the promotional efforts for the title soon, given that launch will take place in late 2015 on the PC and next-gen consoles.
