Battlelog studio Uprise is working on the game, however

Star Wars Battlefront developer DICE confirms that it won't employ the Battlelog social service to access the online multiplayer, meaning that those who get the upcoming shooter on PC won't have to use the tricky interface to play with others.

DICE introduced several paradigm shifts for Electronic Arts' various first-person shooters in recent years, from the Frostbite 3 engine to the Battlelog online service that's employed by its own Battlefield 3 or 4, as well as the recent Battlefield Hardline that arrived from Visceral Games last month.

While the service blends together social aspects of online multiplayer with functionality that allows for easier server browsing and game joining, it's been criticized by many users.

As such, when it became clear that Battlelog maintenance team Uprise was working on Star Wars Battlefront, many users got pretty upset, as that apparently meant that the online interface was going to be employed by the shooter on PC.

Star Wars Battlefront won't use Battlelog

Following this report, the studio comes forward to dismiss this rumor. According to Assistant Producer Jesper Nielsen, who talks with fans on NeoGAF, Battlelog developer Uprise is helping DICE with Star Wars Battlefront's online interface but this doesn't mean that Battlelog is going to be used by the sci-fi shooter.

"That [report] is based on the fact that the Uprise website mentions that Uprise is working on Star Wars Battlefront. While Uprise has been doing Battlelog, does that automatically mean that we will do Battlelog for Star Wars Battlefront? No, it won’t. That can only be an assumption, and I can tell you, no, there won’t be Battlelog for Star Wars Battlefront," he confirms.

He declines to say just how Uprise is helping DICE with Star Wars Battlefront but more actual details should appear later today, when EA and the studio are going to present the official gameplay video for the long-awaited shooter, alongside some official info.

The actual game is set to debut in November on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
