DICE might be focused on delivering more content for Battlefield 4 at the moment, but the company’s long-term prospects are also linked to the new Star Wars Battlefront title, which is currently in the early stage of development.

Karl-Magnus Troedsson, the leader of the company, tells CVG that his company has approached the project with the utmost respect and is determined to deliver the best possible title based on the science fiction universe.

He states, “When we decided to do this, we decided we we're going to do it right. We're going to build the game that we've wanted to see ourselves for a long period of time. The kind of games that we build are at the forefront of quality - they need to be the best sounding, the best playing and most fun games. That's what we're trying to do. We're going to aim for the sky. Our ambition for this game is very, very high.”

Star Wars Battlefront was first announced at E3 in 2013 and since then, the company has not offered too many actual details about the story that it plans to tell and about the mechanics that will be included.

At the most recent edition of the event, an extended trailer was offered, but once again, no one was able to get actual hands-on with the title or see it in action.

It’s unclear whether the secrecy is linked to the early stage of the development process or if developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts are responding to requests coming from their partners at Lucasfilm, which is at the moment owned by Disney.

Karl-Magnus Troedsson says that the working relationship between the involved entities is very good, but he is unwilling to say exactly how much freedom his team has to change elements of the universe.

He adds, “when you're working on somebody else's IP it can often turn into a bit of a challenge I bet. But that's why this has been so positive, because the teams are working together. I won't go into specifics, but what I can say is that it's been extremely positive. We don't feel limited in anyway. We feel completely enabled within this framework.”

Star Wars Battlefront will be offered on the PlayStation 4 from Sony, the PC and the Xbox One from Microsoft at some point late in 2015.

Other titles based on the franchise are also in development at Visceral Games and BioWare.
