The development team at DICE in charge of Battlefield 4 announces that the multiplayer servers of the game will be taken offline today on all platforms on which the shooter is available and apologizes for any inconvenience created to the player base.

The information comes from the official Twitter account of the series, but the studio is apparently no longer interested in offering actual details about the hours when the multiplayer component of the game, the most important one, will be unavailable.

The message also suggests that the times will be different on every console and on the PC, so fans should be ready to sit a few games out later today.

DICE is also not offering any clear details about the reasons for the maintenance, but they are probably preparing Battlefield 4 for the launch of the long-awaited massive patch that will be offered at a certain point in September.

The development team says that it is designed to tweak some of the core mechanics of the game, including revivals, while introducing a suite of balance changes to the weapons.

A final piece of downloadable content for Battlefield 4 is supposed to be launched later in the year.

Battlefield Hardline will be launched in the first few months of 2015 and Visceral Games is at the moment putting the finishing touches on the title.
