When it comes to the Battlefield series, in the last few days, the focus has been on the first rumored and now confirmed Hardline title, which will pit police forces against criminal cartels during the fall of this year, with development being handled by Visceral Games.

But the team at DICE in charge of Battlefield 4 wants fans of the 2013 launched shooter to know that the title is not being abandoned by any means and that the team will continue to deliver improvements, new concepts and more maps in order to enhance the player experience.

The developer says that at the moment, there are teams dedicated to the long-term support for Battlefield 4 in Stockholm, Uppsala and Los Angeles.

The first big target for the future is a major update to the netcode used by the video game, which should result in more stability and improved performance for multiplayer matches.

The Community Test Environment, which was recently launched for all those who subscribe to the Premium service, will also be expanded in order to give the community the chance to test all new additions to Battlefield 4 and offer feedback on them.

More features will be added in the near future, continuing a trend that was started with the introduction of Squad Join, Rent-A-Server and Loadout Presets.

The development team has not offered any official launch dates for the introduction of new features or for the launch of the improved netcode.

Karl Magnus Troedsson, a vice president at DICE, writes on the official blog that, “The games we develop are services. We focus on taking care of the games post launch, delivering new content to those of you who want it and always working hard to increase quality of play.”

He adds, “We also continue to work hard to keep investing in areas where you tell us you see opportunities for improvements and new features. Yes, we’re very excited to partner with Visceral on the development of Battlefield Hardline, but ongoing work to refine and enhance BF4 remains a top priority.”

At the moment, Battlefield 4 is set to get another two full downloadable content packs from the DICE team based in Los Angeles, the first of which will be called Dragon’s Teeth.

Fans have been speculating for some time that DICE is already working on another game in the series, potentially built around the Bad Company continuity, which might be launched in 2015.
