The United States is busy these days with taking measures to ensure that the country’s critical infrastructure is protected against cyberattacks.

As part of this effort, on Wednesday, Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano is expected to testify before a House Homeland Security Committee regarding the agency’s mission and capabilities.

According to The Hill, the hearing will focus on the cyber threats against the US, focusing on “how Congress can build upon the DHS’s efforts to prevent cyberattacks in a way that promotes U.S. commerce, while not hindering its expansion.”

Besides Napolitano, representatives of the American Civil Liberties Union, an organization which says it approves of the new cybersecurity executive order, will also testify before the committee.

Napolitano is also expected to testify during a cybersecurity hearing jointly held by Governmental Affairs and the Senate Commerce and Homeland Security committees.

The DHS has been appointed by US President Barack Obama to oversee the sharing of cyber security information between the government and the private sector. At the end of February, the agency shared information with critical infrastructure operators regarding the cyberattacks that targeted Facebook, Apple and Microsoft.
