US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano has resigned her post. She will remain the chief of the DHS until September, after which she will run the University of California.

“I thank President Obama for the chance to serve our nation during this important chapter in our history. And I know the Department of Homeland Security will continue to perform its important duties with the honor and focus that the American public expects,” Napolitano said, cited by USA Today.

President Obama says he’s content with what Napolitano has done to secure the country’s borders and protect the US against terrorist attacks.

However, besides physical security matters, Napolitano has also been involved in protecting US infrastructure against cyberattacks.

Even before Obama signed the executive order that named the DHS as being responsible for making sure critical infrastructure was protected against cyber threats, Napolitano expressed her concerns regarding the possibility of a cyber 9/11.
