A representative of Sony Online Entertainment has stated that the team working on the DC Universe Online MMO is working hard to make sure that all those who are playing the superhero game feel that they are getting their value out of the 9.99 dollars they need to pay to have one month's access to the game.

Speaking about the subscriptions Ryan Peters, who is a public relations specialist at SOE, said, “Certainly we want people to feel they are getting the value to that subscription. We understand we’re asking a lot and the equation I always give to people is that it’s similar to DLC – if you were getting DLC from Red Dead Redemption every month, I’d probably sign up for that because I buy every piece of DLC they throw at me.”

He added, “People on the console are a little more hesitant because this is a different scenario for them, whereas an established MMO person would say, ‘OK, I play an MMO’. I would say two thirds of them are subscription-based and there’s certainly a free-to-play marketplace out there.”

He went on to compare the value offered by video games in general and DC Universe Online in particular to that offered by other forms of entertainment, like movies.

DC Universe Online is available on both the PC and on the PlayStation 3 home console from Sony and data gathered by SOE shows that the console version seems to be a bit more popular at the moment among those who bought the game.

It's not clear whether the trend will hold in the long term or whether the PC version will be the one gamers choose in the long term, after the initial rush to get the game ends.

Despite appearing on two platforms, DC Universe Online does not offer cross play.

Sony has said that this is the best publishing MMO it has published.
