Sony Online Entertainment has announced that the recently released DC Universe Online, the MMO based around superheroes, has become the fastest selling video game in its portfolio, with the company working hard to make sure that all those who are interested in getting a boxed copy of the game can do so.

The official Twitter feed of John Smedley, who is the president of Sony Online Entertainment, has a message which reads, “Working on out-of-stock problems for DCUO. It's our fastest selling game ever. Should have more inventory in Monday.”

The statement means that DC Universe Online sold better than Star Wars: Galaxies, PlanetSide, EverQuest and The Matrix Online.

The company has not offered hard sales numbers for DC Universe Online and the first actual figures will probably only arrive when it goes past some significant milestone, like 1 million copies sold, or when the NPD numbers for January appear.

With DC Universe Online launched on both the PlayStation 3 from Sony and on the PC, Smedley has also said that the slip is somewhere around parity at the moment, with 52 percent of gamers choosing to play on a console and the rest getting the MMO on the PC.

DC Universe Online costs 10 dollars more on the PlayStation 3 for the initial package purchase and all players need to pay 15 dollars per month for the subscription after their initial free month is up.

Those who plan to engage with the game in the long term can also opt for a life-time subscription, which costs 200 dollars.

Sony Online Entertainment has recently launched an important patch for the MMO and says that it plans to regularly update the game in the coming months, addressing both balance issues and adding more content for regular players to enjoy.

DC Universe Online allows gamers to create complex superhero setups and then fight alongside or against Superman, Wonder Woman, The Joker, Batman and other DC heroes.
