Sony Online Entertainment has announced that it will be launching a second expansion for its MMO DC Universe Online during the final weeks of the year, called Lightning Strikes, set to arrive at the same time on the PC and the PlayStation 3 home console.

The main addition in the new expansion is a new set of powers, based around electricity, which will join the seven that players can already choose from.

Gamers who have already experienced most of the content that DC Universe Online has to offer will also get a new lengthy adventure that is based around The Flash, the iconic speedster of the comic books world.

Lightning Strikes also brings Central City to life, allowing players a open world experience which offers both solo and group missions.

The Flash also joins players as they travel back in time to the Central Police Station and witness the exact moment when Barry Allen becomes his superhero alter-ego.

The second expansion for DC Universe Online also includes new Zoom inspired gear villains and Black Lightning sets for superheroes.

Players will also be able to meet some new NCPs, like Livewire, Black Lightning, The Top, The Trickster and Static.

Jens Andersen, who is the creative director working on DC Universe Online, said, “In this DLC pack, fans have the opportunity to immerse themselves in another great character and action-packed story from the DC Universe.”

He added, “With exciting gameplay, a new power set and new locations to share with your friends, we packed a whole new kind of fun into this DLC pack and are eager for our players to dive into another legendary adventure.”

Lightning Strikes will sell for 9.99 dollars or the equivalent in Euro for those who play DC Universe Online for free and is available without charge to those who have the Legendary level of subscription.
