Sony Online Entertainment, as both the developer and publisher, has announced that the long-awaited superhero based MMO DC Universe Online is now gold and will be launched on both the PlayStation 3 home gaming console from Sony and on the PC on January 11, 2011.

The game will sell for 59.99 dollars on the PS3 and for ten dollars less on the PC and the package will deliver one free month of game time, with those who want to extend it able to do so for 14.99.

Sony says that it will be working hard to deliver more content for the MMO after launch, introducing new environment and new well-known heroes to populate the world.

The game will allow gamers to create their own heroes and then join their favorite heroes, like Superman or Batman, or their favorite villains in order to fight for the salvation or the destruction of the universe.

DC Universe Online has been delayed a few times, with the developers using the extra time to make sure that the two versions of the game are as similar as possible in terms of the experience they deliver.

Sony has emphasized that DC Universe Online will be the first MMO to arrive on the PlayStation 3 and also the first game which makes use of the DC Comic license, as obtained from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.

Christopher Cao, who is the game director of DC Universe Online working at Sony Online Entertainment, has stated when the date was announced, “Creating DC Universe Online has been a massive undertaking, and we’re excited to be that much closer to launch.”

He added, “We’re grateful to our beta players for providing us invaluable feedback in these final stages that has enabled us to put the finishing touches on a fun and exciting experience when the game launches in January.”
