Sony Online Entertainment is teasing fans of the comic books created by DC by revealing its plans for another “comic book legend” set to join the effort to make its upcoming MMO, DC Universe Online, as faithful as possible to the material on which it is based.

Sony will be organizing a panel at the New York Comic Con, called “Bringing the DC Universe to Life Online,” where this mysterious figure will be presented to the public. The panel will take place on Saturday, February 7, between 4:15 and 5:15 PM.

At the same panel, comic book legends Jim Lee and Geoff Johns will also be on hand to answer questions from fans, while the developers working for Sony Online Entertainment, like Jens Andersen, Wes Yenagi and Jared Carr, will be able to tell players how the game looks at the moment and what future developments will mean for the experience of the MMO fans who are also interested in comics.

Sony is also planning to go beyond just words, as the company will set up a demo booth where all those interested in DC Universe Online will be able to play the game in its current form for a limited amount of time.

The MMO is set to arrive in 2009 and we saw glimpses of it at the last big gaming oriented conventions. Sony is really careful in building the game as it needs to balance two sets of needs. The fans of the comic books on which the MMO is based need to see a universe consistent with what they know, while those interested in multiplayer games need to see engaging gameplay allowing them to experience the full power of a super hero. Players will not be able to become super heroes like Superman or Batman, but the game will allow player created characters to fight alongside these legends in the game, which is expected to arrive on both the PlayStation 3 and the PC.
