DC Entertainment has announced that it will be working with Warner Bros. in order to create a new superhero video game called Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, which will be launched at the same time as the Green Lantern movie at some point during the summer of 2010. Rise of the Manhunters is being created for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 from Sony, the Nintendo Wii and the DS handheld. Development duties are being handled by Double Helix Games and by Griptonite Games.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is said to be inspired by the movie, which probably means that it will not cover the same events. Players will be able to equip the well known Green Lantern power ring in order to create more than 12 constructs and fly around the universe restoring order and fighting evil.

The Green Lantern movie is not in production and stars Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, the newest member of the corps. He gets his power ring just as the entire universe is being threatened by a new enemy called Parallax, a being that feeds on emotion. The cast also includes: Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Jay O. Sanders, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Angela Bassett and Tim Robbins. It's not clear whether their voices and likenesses will also be used in the Green Lantern video game.

Samantha Ryan, who is the senior vice president of Production and Development at Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, stated when the announcement was made that, “Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters gives players the chance to experience the world of the Green Lantern mythology in an interactive way, going beyond the events of the film and comic books. The game is the first to centre around DC Comics’ Green Lantern franchise and we’re excited to give fans the opportunity to experience the power of the ring with engaging gameplay.”
