Five members reportedly from the D.O.M. Team hacking group got busted in Spain as part of an investigation of the local police, FOXNews.com informed today. According to the report, two of the suspects were minors, aged 16. "The others are 19 or 20," the same publication adds. It seems like the group of websites attacked no less than 21,000 websites, some of them belonging to the government. However, there's no word which government the hackers attacked or what computers they managed to infiltrate into.

Although it's only pure speculation, El Mundo, a Spanish newspaper cited by FOXNews.com, informed that the D.O.M. Team hackers broke into the NASA website as well as into the servers belonging to the national Venezuelan phone operator.

It's interesting to note that the five people arrested in multiple regions of Spain, including Barcelona, Burgos, Malaga and Valencia, hadn't met each other and only communicated on the Internet, the same source reports citing a police statement. Their attacks were mostly based on website infiltrations after which they inserted their own page on the servers in order to compromise visitors' computers. However, the hackers didn't think they were doing an illegal thing, some members told El Mundo, because all they did was to actually show the website owners that there were vulnerabilities in their servers.

In case they are found guilty, the hackers could spend several years behind bars and pay large fines to the victims of their attacks.

Unfortunately, there are more and more cases in which the members of hacking groups are teenagers who think the things they do are not illegal. Moreover, they consider that breaking into somebody's website is actually a good thing because they disclose vulnerabilities which exist on the server. However, it has been proved once again that such activities shouldn't be tolerated and, although it takes several months or even years, the ones guilty of such attacks finally get to pay for what they did.
