D-Link has released new firmware for various router models that are plagued by a vulnerability that could be leveraged by hackers to gain control of the device.

The details of the vulnerability were presented by Tactical Network Solutions researchers back in mid-October. Shortly after, D-Link promised to fix the issues.

Last week, D-Link made available new firmware for DI-524, DI-524UP, DIR-100 and DIR-120 routers. On the other hand, these are not the only models named vulnerable. The list also includes DI-604S, and DI-604UP, DI-604 +, TM-G5240 and possibly some versions of DIR-615.

In its security advisory, D-Link urges customers to beware of unsolicited emails related to these vulnerabilities. The company notes that it never sends notifications asking users to install or click on something.

As Brian Krebs highlights, the router models for which updates have been released are old, so users are recommended to change them altogether. However, if you insist on keeping the device and you want to apply the firmware patch, be careful when doing so since the device could become permanently damaged.
